Easter Egg 1

Lesson:  Keep the Chrsit in Easter
Bible Passage:  The Easter Story

This requires a lot of preparation, but it's Easter right?  You will need an egg that is blown out - that is, a raw egg with tiny holes at each end through which you blow out the insides, leaving a hollow egg.  Paint this egg like an Easter Egg.  Be careful, as it can easily be crushed, which will be the point.  Also, obtain small Christian crosses.  These can be found at Christian book stores or online.  This is one of the few times you will probably need to go to your Worship committee for funds.  It also requires a little sleight of hand.  I recommendyou wear a ring on your finger so you can slip the cross inside the ring, hiding it from the children.

Ask the children if they hunted for Easter Eggs today.  Tell them that some folks are confused about what Easter Eggs have to do with Jesus.  Tell them you have one answer.  Ask them if they know what an egg is used for.  (Hold the egg by the ends, hiding the holes you created). They will probably say, "Eating" but also explain that it is with an egg that new things are born.  Birds and turtles and many other things are born with eggs.

We also use the egg to show how we are reborn in Jesus - how through Jesus' resurrection, we can live a life filled with the love of Jesus.  As an example, look what is inside this egg.  Crush the egg and, as you drop the pieces, pull out the cross.  Show them how Jesus is part of something wonderful and new and, as a reminder, give each one of them a cross of their own.
