A MOTHER'S DAY GIFT

Lesson: Christ's Command - Love One Another
Bible Passage: John 15:9-17

Today is a very special day - who can tell me what today is? (Mother's Day)  That's right. And today we often give our Mom's something special.  What are some of the things we give our Mom? (Pray that the kids will say "flowers" and "candy.")  Yes, sometimes we give flowers (Hand each child a flower. Look for inexpensive daisies, carnations or Farmer's Market flowers if cost is a consideration).  Flowers are a nice thing we give our Moms.  Another nice thing is candy.  When I gave this Children's Message, I handed out Gummi Worms. I suggest something simpler (though less funny-sounding) like lollipops) Here is a candy you can give your Mom.

But Jesus tells us the best thing possible to give your Mom - a gift she will remember all year 'round.  Jesus tells us to "love." Love freely, love often, and love everyone.  Now you may be thinking, "I'm only in grade school or pre-school and all I can do is clean my room or do my school work or turn off the television the first time I am asked."  Well, to show love for your Mom, all you need do - every single day - is clean your room and do your school work and turn off the television the first time you are asked.  By doing these small chores and the little things that are special around the house. that will be the most wonderful gift you can give your Mom.  Hugs and Kisses and material presents are nice - but don't forget to love her - and everyone else - the whole year round.

Let's close in prayer.  Let's say "thank you" to the Creator God, who gives us such wonderful people in our life and to the Holy Spirit who guides us to do good and to Jesus Christ, whose teacings to us show us the path of love.  For all of our gifts and blessiings, we say "thank you" and "amen."
