KARL BARTH AND KIDS Lesson: God's love is simple Bible Passage: The Moment is freely adapted from a well known story, also found in Tony Campolo's book, "Let Me Tell You a Story." Although the story is well known, the adaptation is original. This Moment includes the church choir or a group of singers.
Karl Barth had written tens of thousands of pages about the Bible and God and Jesus and is considered one of the most sophisticated theologians of the 20th century. He was once asked, "Of all the religious insights you have ever had, which do you consider to be the greatest of them all?"
Everyone wanted to hear what great and brilliant new insight he would say. The Rev. Barth closed his eyes and thought for a while, the he smile, opened his eyes and said, "The greatest religious insight that I have ever had is this. 'Jesus loves me, this I know. For the Bible tells me so.'" greatest of them all?" Have the choir, in the visible presence of the children, immediately begin singing this familiar tune. The congregation can be invited to join in. When the song is done, say “Amen” and invite the children to join with their families back in the pews or go off to Sunday School.
